Thank you to PE teacher Mitchell

‘Thank you to PE teacher Mitchell – former friend of Tom’s and first team OLHC player, who is raising the awareness of OD and CPR at his school.

Mitchell is organising a fantastic 10 hour marathon in memory of Tom’s 10th anniversary of OD.

On 10th December Mr Jones & 8 Year 13 Pupils from The Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh, Essex will be completing a 10-hour cross-country running challenge.

They will be completing a continuous 10-hour cross country relay around the undulating local bridle path from 0730-1730 with each person expecting to cover at least half a marathon during this time.

This challenge in is memory of Tom Wilson, a close friend and teammate, who tragically passed away in a hockey training accident 10 years ago. Whilst the injury was fatal, fortunately, those present were able to perform effective CPR which enabled Tom’s organs to be kept alive long enough to be donated via the Organ Donor Scheme and the loss of Tom’s life meant that many people benefitted from his selfless donation. Tom’s mum, Lisa, was even able to hear via stethoscope his heart beating inside the gentleman whose life was saved via the scheme.

All funds raised will be donated to the Royal Life Saving Society who have agreed, upon completion, to come into the school and deliver CPR training to as many students as possible with the aim of providing our young people with the confidence to act effectively if they were ever faced with such a situation.

The students will be organising a variety of fund-raising events throughout the school over coming weeks which will benefit the school community, and we hope to raise as much awareness and funds as possible to honour Tom’s ten-year anniversary.
